A very lazy Weekend

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends this past weekend was a total lazy weekend - don't get me wrong I still did laundry, vacuumed, dusted, cooked and ironed, but besides the regular running of the house I also sat around lots and stitched.
__________

Saturday we ran around to the sales and shops and here is the haul...
Not very much at all - but from L to R... two books - a newish copy of Les Miserables, a book about the history of some of the worlds more famous jewels, a brand new tube of draw liner paper (it has a really old fashioned floral kind of scent) a great hinged tin Christmas box and a nice repro annunciation Icon.

I also put two pieces of stitching in for framing - they should be back in the next few weeks.
__________

I baked up a red velvet cake - normally a red-velvet cake is a layer cake, but I wanted a sheet cake version and found a great recipe on line - with a delicious whipped cream cheese frosting......

Here is a snap of it an hour or so ago all hacked up a ready to be brought into work.  I'll post the recipe in the next day or two - it turned out pretty tasty if I do say so myself!!
________

Yesterday we spent at home, never leaving, not even for Mass, breakfast or the farmers market.  I baked up some strudel for breakfast and then made some steaks from the freezer for dinner.  I spent the entire day just hanging out stitching and watching Elizabeth Taylor flickers - it was a very good day!!!!  I'll post a snap of the stitching later as I forgot to get one last night.

There you go sports fans.  Thanks for stopping by - do come again!!  Did anyone else catch the new "Upstairs Downstairs" on PBS that started last night - what did you think?????

Take care,
edgar

  3. Thanks again for the reminder about TCM on Sunday. I managed to catch two films -- Father of the Bride and Father's Little Dividend. They were so much fun!!! I wanted to watch more, but didn't get a chance. I caught the tail end of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Darn it!

Glad you had a lazy weekend -- those can be very nice!

  7. I spent Friday and Saturday sleeping off sedation from the dentist on Friday morning. Sunday morning I dragged my fat butt out of bed, played for two services, came home and slept some more. Then Upstairs, Downstairs on Masterpiece Theater.....

  8. It sounds like you had a lovely weekend. I drove my daughter all over creation for drama and choir rehearsal. I will watch for the red velvet recipe... how do you manage to stack the pieces? If I did that they would stick together and some lucky person would get two layers of icing.

  9. Good grief, your definition of lazy is very different from mine - cooking, cleaning, shopping, stitching, baking... I'd call that busy! Looking forward to seeing the pictures of your stitching.
We had the new Upstairs Downstairs here at the end of last year. Enjoyable, but not like the original - perhaps it's not fair to compare though. There was also a bit of brouhaha (possibly media stirring) over the fact that Downtown Abbey had a few similar story themes!

  10. What do you mean new Upstairs Downstairs on PBS...I either missed it or Buffalo/ Toronto PBS is on a different schedule. I keep checking for the next Downton Abbey series. I'd love some lazy time but start back at school tonight and it will be July before I lift my head again...so living vicariously through you Edgar. Cake looks delicious and can't wait to see the stitching.

  12. What!? A new Upstairs, Downstairs!? :D

Sounds like a great weekend. Thinking back, I had a great one two. Marc had Friday off for all the midnight oil he's been buring for work, and so I talked him into finally getting the couch we've been putting off. So it was off to ikea, and then assembly time. On Saturday, we trekked over to the Junkyard to get a replacement tire rim--been on the donut all week! And then over to get a replacement tire. I've never purchased a used tire (usually get new ones in pairs), but it was totally cheap and in great condition! So, those should have been the annoying parts, but weren't so bad.

We also hung out at a friend's place and they wound up playing a gorgeous video game from the mid-90's I'd never seen; It's always great to discover a new favorite.

  14. I have Upstairs Downstairs on the DVR but no chance to view it yet. I agree with another commenter that your weekend sounds pretty busy and not very lazy at all! Your red velvet cake looks luscious!

  16. Lets see...you cooked, baked, stitched, cleaned and ironed...your version of a lazy weekend is WAY different than mine. You are cordially invited to my house to spend several lazy weekends your way...while I spend them my way. And please, Edgar, bring the ingredients for red velvet cake!

  17. Great finds! I love the Christmas box and the icon. I was thinking about you as I (finally) checked out our local 'antique mall.' Lots of goodies to be had, prices were so-so. Wish I had room for some knick-knacks.

  18. I liked the new "Upstairs/Downstairs" but found myself a bit depressed by it. Maybe depressed is not the right word...nostalgic, perhaps. I was feeling what Rose felt about seeing that old house again. I'm sure it was just an odd mix of PBS and PMS!!
