A Little Stitchin'

Gentle friends, still workling on Sarah, and the second part of the fenced yard...here's a snap...

... I was really happy when the two sides met up at the gate posts.  All that's left is to fill in the yard and a few other bits - I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!!

A Little Thrifting

Gentle Friends... well, we made it to Thursday and so it must be "Thrifty Thursday."  We hit the usual shops and I even tried to find the one Estate Sale going on in the City... but without any luck, I found the street, I found where the house should have been but no house with the number nor the usual Estate sale signs that should have been about ... I spent about 10 minutes looking then threw the towel in and headed home ....  but I had already found some fun stuff...

...a super hand painted, gilt trimmed hard paste porcelain 19th-century jug for a"Mary McChain 1849" a copy of Jean Plaidy's first book from her historical fiction series about the Tudor Dynasty and a super little porcelain tray from Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee of 1977.

A Little Weather

Gentle Friends, we've been having a really wet, chilly winter so far and yesterday was no exception... in addition to the on and off rain, we got some....

... hail.  I heard it coming down the street in a wave,  then full force... like little stones hitting for about 8 minutes it hailed quite heavily, and it melted almost as fast as it hit the ground.... but I enjoyed the "almost snow"!!

A Little Thrifting

Gentle Friends, a few fun things I picked up this weekend...

...a great mid century sterling bowl, a  nice little piece of transfer ware, a vintage "Miami" plate made exclusively for Burdines c. 1950, which was a Florida department store that was bought by Macys, a great little film about a Hollywood murder in the 1920's, and a great little Indian painting with some silver leaf decoration.....

... here's a better snap of the painting of a god and consort??  not too sure.

A Little Wintery RAK

Gentle Friends, the mail over the weekend brought a sweet gift from a dear friend....

...  and it's because of this Blog that I met and have gotten to know her over the past 10 or so years... we all know her as The Twisted Stitcher and I know as Sweet Vonna.  I was lucky enough this Fall to meet up with her and her family here in the City for lunch and what a fun afternoon that was!!

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, still plugging away at Sarah.....

... I have finished up the line of over one and am now stitching on the little farm scene on the bottom of the piece. I spent a good portion of my "thinking about stitcing " time this weekend thinking about what I want to work on next......and I have some ideas brewing up....

A Little Thrifting

Gentle Freinds, we made it to some of the shops and an estate sale, even with all the weather blowing about....  nothing keeps me down when there could be fun stuff out there!!  Here's a snap...

... I found some fun DVD's to add the collection, the little cross is a small copy of the St Damiano Cross which is a Romanesque rood cross found in the Basilica of St Clare in Assisi, Italy.  The super framed photo I found in a pile of framed things at a Goodwill....

......if you remember my sordid past, I was once a curator in a museum in Florida and when I worked there we had an exhibition of fine art photo's by Clyde Butcher, so I knew right away - what - who and where this photo came from, I immediately picked it up for purchase.

Back then, when I was curating the show I really wanted one of his photos but at the time just couldn't afford one.  There is a label on the back identifying that this particular framed photo came from Clyde's "Big Cypress Gallery" in Ochopee, Florida - it is signed on the front and dated on the back "2/22/97" and is titled "Kissimmee River #5 - 1995."  Now, you know if you've been reading this blog that I am really not a fan of Florida, too hot, too buggy, too sunny the list goes on and on.......... however, the natural beauty of the state is spectacular and this picture really epitomises what that beauty is like  (my photo of the photo is bad, sorry), when I lived in Florida near the Tomoka River at that time had large stretches of area that looked very much like this, and natural areas like this are quickly disappearing under the developers shovel!!

Now, flash forward to this past weekend...when I went to buy it I had know idea that it was actually on sale so I paid an even smaller fraction of the original price - so woohoo for me and the bargain of the week!!!

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, well, it's Monday morning again and we've come through a very wet, windy and a bit wild weekend and it's only the second week of the new year.  We did make it out to the stores Saturday and made it through the rain to 8 am Mass, aside from that we stayed in most of Sunday and I got a bit more done on Sarah....  here's a snap...

... there is just one more alphabet to stitch, an over one lower case that fits in the space between the box and cursive alphabets.

A Last Christmas Libation...

Gentle Friends, Christmas is still lingering about here by the bay.... a few days ago Mitchells Ice Cream posted on their facebook page about putting the reminder of their Egg Nog at 1/2 price.... well, knowing that this delicious handmade nectar is on the expensive side normally and they only make it for a very short time over Christmas... I knew I needed to stop on the way home  (it's sort of in our neighborhood) and pick some up.....

... and we've have been enjoying it every evening!!!  I do love me some egg nog - and know that not everyone likes it...  sometimes I "nog" it with rum, sometimes whiskey,  and sometimes I use both whiskey and rum.... I always grate lots of nutmeg into the glass, stir in the "nog" and then pour the creamy egg nog over it all. delicious!!  I think what makes this brand different it how extremely thick it is, almost too thick, but really just right!!

A Little Stitchin'

Gentle Friends, over the long weekend I stitched some on Sarah, here's a snaperoo....

... I'm really enjoying the different stitches used for different parts of the alphabets, regular cross, double cross, oblong cross,  rice stitch, and block.....  it's nice to have some variation!!  I'm also adjusting as I stitch along bits and pieces to even things up or where I think it looks better.
______________

It's a wet Tuesday, and we're expecting lots more rain all week.  It's nice to have so much rain again after so many dry years....  That's about if for today sports fans, not much going on around the old homestead - we did take down and toss out all the dry Christmas greenry yesterday so the house is much less festive....

Take care,
edgar
