Thrifty Thursday Finds.... and a Fall Treat

Gentle Friends...  once again we have been out and about hunting up treasures....  here's some of the fun things I found the Saturday before last.......

from l to r...  some nice sterling pieces ( I've worked them over with polish and they are much cleaner and reflective than when they came into the house.....  a great "Ivorine" frame in the DuBarry Pattern, and a nice German tea trivet....  a translation of the saying around the edge.... "Coffee must be hot as hell, as black as the devil as pure as an angel, and as sweet as love"  it's a nice piece probably from the 70's.

Here are some fun things I found this past Saturday....

.... a great old picture frame, a vintage hand decorated Staffordshire Tea pot, in the shape of a thatched cottage, a nice Ste. Christina Icon, and a DVD copy of "Topsy Turvy", a super 1999 musical film about Gilbert and Sullivan and the 15 month period leading up to the Premier of "The Mikado."  It's a great little film that was not widely released and won 2 Academy Awards, for Costume Design and for makeup.

We found another treat at Trader Joe's....  they always have Panettone around the Christmas Holidays, but this year they also have a Fall Panettone - or it might be we are just noticing it this year - whatever the case we bought one to try.......

....  it was beautiful coming out of the box and wrapping.....

... I hacked a couple of pieces off for the both of us and found it to be another winner for Pumpkin and Fall from Trader Joe's!!!  It went really well with a cuppa tea and with a cup of coffee.

  1. MY DH spends so much time in Germany…why can't he find treasures like that tea/coffee trivet? The saying is cute.
Nice score on the silver pieces.

I love all things pumpkin but the closest Trader Joe's is 2hrs north, in Burlington, so I must pass on giving it a try. I did however try the doughnuts you posted about no too long ago….delicious! :-) I have refrained from making a repeat purchase since I am afraid I would easily gobble up the entire box.

  3. Just hit up Trader Joe's the other day and stocked up on all things pumpkin. Not sure if you've ever posted about their Kringle, but it's to die for! I can usually find it there in the fall and around Christmas. Fall is Pumpkin Caramel and Christmas is either Cranberry or Pecan (I forget which one). You can't just go in for one thing.....well, I can't.

  8. I had to laugh over the Panettone. If you have ever seen Coco Peru's bit on buying Panettones for Christmas you will know why.

  11. I love that little sliver oval shaped bowl with the four feet and the lace-cut pattern. what would that have been used for???? Also love that oogly boogly cookie jar sitting on your kitchen counter. now I wonder what wonderful friend of yours gave you that??? how long ago was that? my how time flies. miss you and that's for all the Halloween cards. Halloween has been tough on me this year. didn't decorate too much, haven't even gotten my costume together yet and don't know if I will even throw a party this year.

  12. You find the most wonderful treasures!!! I really must come shop with you one day....I love everything you find, so we might have a "hair-pullin" over the same items! haha
I've never bought a panettone, but I see them in Fresh Market--we don't have a Trader Joe's here-I'm going to have to stop in one on our next trip. I hear what a great store it is!
