A Stitchity Post - and - Gift-a-Way

Gentle Friends, I though I would give you a break from my Travel-log for a something fun!!  A couple of moths ago I was approached by Stackpole Books representative, Heather  Gooch, if I would be interested in receiving and reviewing a new book coming out about Samplers and Embroidery. Not only was I flabbergasted and quite honored to be asked, I though how fun to read and talk about a new book featuring our Hobby!!

The new book is called...

... Simply Samplers, by Cheryl Fall.  Cheryl has authored 13 books and numerous articles about embroidery and crafts, and was host of the PBS show "The Creative Life.  She has been designing since 1986.

This newest book is soft covered and about 100 pages long and just full of fun projects and basic information about cross stitch and embroidery.  One of the nicer aspects of the book is a large section called Finishing techniques for each stitched project .  There are also pages with great illustrations of all the stitches used in the book......

In the back are two pages with all the projects photographed for really quick reference....

I like that the book is a large format being 8 1/2 x 11 inches big so that when each project is shown....

the following pages have easy to read colour graphs.......

The book is not a Christmas book of projects I just picked the Christmas project since it is coming up in about 89 days, there are also Fall projects, and a great shamrock project for Spring.

Overall it's a great book of easy to read stitching pieces that can keep any stitcher busy year round.
_____________

I really enjoyed reading the review copy I was sent and Heather from Stackpole is very generously allowing me to offer it as a Gift-a-way.

Here's how it will work - Just leave a comment on this Post that you'd like to be entered in the Gift-a-way - that's all - easy peasy.  I'll have the Who Hounds and Hag Claw draw a winner next Thursday, October 2nd,  and I'll announce the winner on next Friday October 3rd.  Make sure I can contact you if you win, if I can't contact the winner I'll have the crew draw another name.  Anyone from anywhere may enter, so long as you can get snail mail, you are eligible.  I think any stitcher will enjoy the book and projects that Cheryl came up with.

I thought I would throw in a little bit of my stitching
- here's where I'm at with "Winter Wonderland"....

... not a far along as I had thought I'd be, but still quite a fun stitch!!

That's about it for today sports fans, thanks for stopping by do stop again!!

Take care,
edgar

  8. Winter Wonderland is looking great! I'm always not as far along on any of my stitching as I thought I would be after I've stitched on it a few days/weeks. What about Rosy Morning and Summer Harvest? I'm not entering your drawing as I already have a few books on the techniques of different stitches. I'm sure whoever wins it will be well pleased.....sounds like a great book. You were right, it is a 'special something'. Have a great weekend. See ya Monday!

  26. Your stitching looks wonderful.
I had read the review of this book on Needle & Thread. I ordered it for my grand daughter's birthday which is soon to be 8 years old. She has been stitching with me for the past two years and loves it. She comes once a week after school during the school year. I really like the book. I will be borrowing hers as there are couple things I think I can use. Great little first book for a stitcher.
