A Super RAK and ATS Update

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends it's Friday and we have made it through another week....  today we are looking October in the face, so Fall has really arrived!!  Also, we are quickly coming up to the big 3 Holidays....  only 33 more days until Hallowe'en.... only 55 days until Thanksgiving... and only 88 until Christmas... time is ticking away quickly!!
______________

Yesterday the mail brought a wonderful RAK from Beth, from over at Beth's Crafts.  She wrote me a while back that she was de-stashing and would I like to have the "bunches and bunches" of DMC she acquired during a sale.  I thought that was so kind and such a sweet gesture and excepted.  Well, she sent me a box jammed packed to busting full of skeins of DMC floss.......  here's a snap...

..... there are 100's of skeins of floss!!!  What a kind generous thing to do, and I thank you so very much.  I have started to sort through them, and now need to figure out a good way to store and keep up with what is here.  Stitchers are just the nicest people!!!
_____________

I also wanted to get a couple of snaps of ATS posted to show you where it stands at the moment....  an over all shot...

As you can see I shifted some of the verse to make it a bit less wonky, but not too even.  I am not very happy with the way Mr Lion is so looking very two-toned, I am thinking I need to frog out the light shade and make him more even coloured.  it amazes me how the variation in skeins is so great - these are both labeled "Tarnished Gold" - I guess one is more tarnished than the other.   And, here's a close up shot of the section 5 ...

I am just dreading the grass in the final section, but like everything else it is just in the doing and it will get done!

That's about it for today sports fans.  Thanks for stopping by, and for your super comments, I do appreciate them.  Just a quick note about next week, I will be away from the Blog and in Florida - without computer access - so no posting/emails until October 8th or 9th. I am visiting my Mom and will be there for my Birthday next week.

Take care,
edgar

  3. Wow! What an RAK!!! I love the pic -- so colorful! And your ATS! Beautiful! I had a hard time with the lion's face as well, but I ended up leaving it. As for the grass -- you'll be amazed. You get into a rhythm with the diagonal stitching and it gets to be relaxing and mindless stitching. I actually enjoyed it!

  4. Edgar - Enjoy your visit with your mom and have a great Birthday! I inherited tons of floss when my MIL died. I don't know how she purchased floss, but there were over 50 skeins of 3771 alone. I divided it with my daughter who stitches and then incorporated the rest of it into my supply. It took me three years to use up the 3771. I'm not complaining... I loved receiving all of that thread!

  5. That was really a kind RAK you received :D so many threads.... what a great gift for a stitcher ;) and I love your on ATS although I do agree with you regardind the two toned lion... I don't know but maybe it will be looking better if there are more colours that are missing for now... or I would frog it and make it with one colour only :D Good luck with it and with the grass :) Hugs,

  7. Happy Birthday, Edgar. I know you have a great time.
I love your ATS. It is looking good. That was an awesome RAK! It is good to know that there are such wonderful people in this world. About storage for the floss, have you thought about a 3 ring binder aand pencil cases? You could sort them by color and keep them in a binder in pencil cases. Take care, Allie

  8. Wow, that is a lot of thread! You'll be able to do all sorts of projects with all of those goodies. I am constantly amazed at all the recent pictures of ATS and am too worried about getting into another big project and never finishing it. This one must take a lot of patience and dedication. Great job - it's beautiful!

  16. First of all, Happy Birthday! Hope it brings you much happiness and fun!

That stash needs its own address! If I may suggest what I do with my skeins - get photo boxes. You can then arrange them as you please but they stack nicely and can coordinate with the house.

ATS is amazing - how much longer is it?

Have a wonderful time visiting your mom. :) Isn't it your birthday during that time (the 4th?)? I was hoping to send you a little something in time for it, but will send it after. I hope you won't mind it being a little late! (Strictly speaking, it isn't a birthday-related, but has been on my mind to send and I thought it would be a good opportunity. Now, I get more time--yay! :D.
