"A date which will live in infamy"

Gentle readers and Dear Friends the post title says it all - the words are from the Presidential speech to Congress on December 8, 1941, by Franklin D Roosevelt.  The history can be read HERE about the attack on Pearl Harbor.  Here is a snap of the USS Arizona memorial...

We should never forget the fallen soldiers then and the falling soldiers now protecting our rights and freedoms.  It is not often that I wave the flag, but I didn't want the day to pass without a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made over the years... 1675-1676, 1689-1697, 1702-1713, 1756-1763 1775-1783, 1812, 1836, 1861-1865, 1898, 1914-1918, 1939-1945, 1950-1953, 1960-1975, 1983, 1989, 1990-1991, 2001-?, 2003 -? That is lots of History but important...
I will leave you with a favorite quote of mine...

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
George Santayana (1863-1952)

  2. It is good to remember those who have fallen for us. My favorite quote which is at the bottom of my signature on my work email is...Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty. John F. Kennedy

  5. Edgar, Thanks for that wonderful post . My son served two tours in Iraq and we feel blessed to have him safely back here in the U.S. Other families have not been as fortunate.

  8. My father-in-law was stationed on the USS Nevada when this happened. I wish he was alive today to receive my gratitude. Somehow I have to believe he knows.
Thank you Edgar for this tribute. It always brings a tear to my eye.
