The Day Before the Day

Gentle Friends....  on Saturday we did our usual running around in the morning, grocery shopping, a stop at the bagel shop for breakfast..... then on to the thrift shopping....  we were back home showered and changed for a Matinee Show down at the Castro Theatre.  Friends of ours took us to a show and out to dinner for my Birthday.

The show we went to see was a parody of that classic 60's psychological thriller..."Whatever Happened to baby Jane".....this show was called...."Whatever Happened to Bianca del Rio?"

...  Bianca del Rio played the Jane Hudson role and Peaches Christ played the Joan Crawford role....  all the roles in the stage parody were played by drag performers and it was a total hoot fest!!!

... I just happened to get a shot of the screen advertising the next movie parody, "Addams Family Values", coming November 21st, yes, I've already got our tickets!!

... I got a shot of Bianca and Peaches during the performance... Peaches is holding a microphone because the one she was wearing went out.....

... here's most of the performers taking a bow at the end... from left to right  Heklina - played Mrs Bates, the next door neighbor, Mahlae Balenciaga played Elvira, Bianca del Rio as Baby Jane, Peaches Christ as Blanche, Lady Bear as Edwin Flagg, Martiny as Liza Bates and Rory Davis as the Father......  it was one of the most clever things I've ever seen and a totally fun afternoon!!! 

 After the play they screened the 1962 film, and we stayed for the first 1/4 or so then left for our dinner reservation......

They had made reservations just down on Market Street so we walked over to BizouBistronomy, a really lovely upscale French inspired place.....

... now, you know if there's foie gras on a menu I'm, gonna have some and have some I did, here's a snap of my appetizer.....  I was so excited I hacked into the foie before taking a snap...

.....  they got an order of oysters .....

... and Tom got a lovely bowl of onion soup, they are kind of know around town for this soup.....

....  for the main courses  they shared an order of Filet de Fletan - seared halibut, cauliflower puree, baby carrot rainbow chard, parsley sauce.....

... Rico had the Steak et Frites....

..... and I had Poulpe et Noix de St Jacques...  which was seared octopus and scallion, lobster croquette, Jerusalem artichoke with squid ink sauce....

.....  it was all so very delicious!!!!  We were stuffed and so skipped on the desert.......

Wrapping up the Week

Gentle Friends so sorry to have not posted in a couple of days - a little "out of sorts" at this end  - I'll wrap up the week with a few snaps...... an update snap of "Feast"....

.... still working on the house, I changed one of the over dyed flosses in the roof so that the squares would pop a bit more.  The called for flosses were so dang close in colour that they all started to blend into one golden lump, and that just wasn't working for me.......I got a birthday prezzie from my friend Dale in NC......

..... a super t-shirt from the Ayden Collard Festival, it's the official Collard Festival of NC, and a cap from East Carolina, Go Pirates!!!!!  I love me some collard greens, and for those that don't know what a collard green is...... and there are some....HERE's a bit of info.

Mistletoe and Mail

Gentle Readers and Dear Friends thank you so much for your input on the "ABC Noel" Sampler - I agree with the consensus that the letters and pictures do not correspond and are just red letters with seasonal images.  One super thing about this sampler is that I can finish up a letter in an evening stitching - it is like a little mini finish!!  That is a real jolt to the ego!  Last night was the lettre "C" -  here is a snap of the the entire piece as it stands...

That looks like mistletoe to me - later on there is a bunch of what I presume to be holly - and not on  the "H". The start of the lettre "D" is a dark green fir tree. .  It is a great sampler so far - and you know me - I do love stitching the alphabet!!  I will have to put this down for a day or so as I need to finish up an exchange piece I am working on so that I can get it in the mail on Monday.

Yesterday the mail brought a really lovely Birthday prezzie from Berit.  When I opened up the box I found....

....everything all beautifully wrapped with a gorgeous card!! And, here are all the treats....

...starting in the lower left corner some really delightful incense, a micro-planer for ginger and citrus rind, and some tasty cookies!! Thank you so much Berit!!

A Gift, A Give-A-Way and a Gully Washer

GR&DF it's Tuesday and I pushed it a bit on the title - sometimes I just haven't a clue as to what to head this sucker with. At some point I know I will break and just put nothing, but until that time I will keep trying for the clever and descriptive - :)

Yesterday the delivery guy brought me a Birthday Gift from a dear sweet friend that already does so much!! We all know and Love dear Vonna - she sent me a great gift box of goodies from Dillman Farm in Bloomington IN.


Included in the box is some Apple Butter (a favorite of mine), some Strawberry Jam (yummy) and two kinds of fudge - can you go wrong with any kind of fudge!!
What a great way to wrap up a Birthday!!

Keeping with a friends sort of Blog today - I wanted to have a small Give-a-way - As you saw yesterday I have finished up Sail Away - this was also a gift from a dear friend - Becky - a while back. Made even more special by doing it with a group of friends as a SAL!! I want to make a gift of the Instructions and chart to a stitcher out there that might want to kit it up their self.


Here is a snap of everything including the remaining silks - there really isn't enough of any one colour - but you can get the idea of the colours required if you wanted to use some other floss. It is in very good condition as I always stitch from copies of the chart and not the original charts. So, if you would like this copy of Sail Away to stitch - and it is a great stitch!! - just leave a comment on this post before this Friday, October 16th at 3 PM PST. I will have the Hag Claw draw from the BOD (Bowl of Destiny) and announce the winner next Monday.

My stitching for the last couple of nights had been throwing a couple of strands of floss at TiTD and working on my exchanges. I do love them so but they do seem to stack up don't they!!!

The flickers on the tube have been that superior BBC series - Upstairs Downstairs and not I Claudius. When I was standing in front of the DVD's looking for IC I saw the UD set and thought "I hadn't seen that in a while." So off the shelf it came and I am working my way through the 4th Disc. The complete series is 81 episodes so it will take me a while to get to the end. Rico gave me the whole series a few years back and I watched it then but haven't in a while so I am very excited to rewatch them. I was also poking around on the Internet yesterday and found that they are in production for a 2nd UP series which follows Rose the house parlor maid a few years later into another position as a Housekeeper. It should bee airing next spring (I think) in the UK and eventually here in the States - I can't wait!!! If you have never seen the series I would highly recommend it. Each episode can be watched individually but it is always better to see it from the begging. To watch the progression through the years and see how all the characters develop.

Last but not least - we are in the midst of our first big storm of the season - a bit early - but a total downpour right now!! Here is a snap of it rolling in over the city last night.....

This was the last bit of sunlight breaking through from the west and hitting the buildings of downtown SF - aren't the clouds lovely!!
