A Stitchity Posting

GR&DF it warms the heart to read such positive things about my little efforts. I do so enjoy stitching away on something in the evenings. The only downside is when you come to the end of something. Although wonderful to have a beautiful thing - it is an emptiness to not pick up that old friend you have had in your hands working on. I guess I am getting a bit melancholy because I finished up another section of the Alph Birds Sampler last night. Here is a snap of the two sections completed -

As you can see I am at the double gold band that separates the sections. I think I am going to fill these bands with motifs from the section, but that may change. Here is a close up of the completed section -

This section is called Alpha Menagerie - and for the life of me some of these animals are just beyond anything I can identify - but as a group they really work. This is a totally fun piece to work on and so much different than what I usually stitch. Only one more section to do - Alpha Sheep - then it is on to a sampler piece.

The header snap has 15 of my stitched pieces. The list of pieces moving counter clockwise from the 5 o'clock position..... "Quaker Christmas" - Bygone Stitches, "Sail Away" - Shepard's Bush, my LHN/CCN RR, "AphaBlocks" - Carriage House, "Flower Basket" - La-D-Da, "Serenity" - Examplar Dames, a stamped linen sampler (my very first linen piece), my Halloween RR (the skeleton comes from a BOAF chart "Remember me on Halloween"), a French Sampler from a magazine, "Beatrix Potter Companion Sampler" WIP, Loose Feathers Mystery Sampler - BBD, "Quaker Garden" - BBD, "Village of Hawk Run Hollow" - CHS, "Memorial Sampler" - Midsummer Night Designs and the center is "Gentle Words" - La-D-Da I wrapped it around a stitching tomato to make it bit more round. There you go - I hope that helps, but if you have any questions about any piece I will certainly try to get an answer.

I think that's about it up for today.
Thank you for stopping by and for the kind comments.
Do come again!!

Take care,
edgar

  2. It's looking great Edgar, I love the samattering of animals near the bottom.

I know what you mean. I think that is why I tend to stitch so slow on certain projects, for fear of finally finishing them, at least that is what I will tell my self from now on when I curse myself for being such a slow stitcher LOL

    Take care and happy stitches

  4. Oh, how pretty!

Yes, I know what you mean about missing something that you've been working on. The funny thing is that it's usually the piece that I kvetched about the most that I miss...go figure.

Off topic...if you have a chance, may I have your email address? Mine is conijorich@aol.com.

  5. Uh...duh. Nevermind about sending your email. I just noticed that it is on your profile.

I REALLY need to sit up in the buggy now, don't I?

  6. Edgar,

Wow, what a lovely piece. I just love the animal part. Looks like some very tiny stitches. Is that part over one? Beautiful!

  7. Overall, I didn't do too well on my guessing! lol! But, I still feel absurdly pleased that I guessed/remembered correctly that the skeleton was a BoaF! :)

Some pieces, I really enjoy stitching (well, so far 2) to the point that I don't want it to end, but mostly I want to "own" the things I'm stitching so I'm impatient. :D

The thing I enjoyed MOST was/is Fox Forest, and was going to ad some type at the bottom...then I realized it would "square" the rectangle of the design--undesirable for basket-izing--so...I guess I'll be leaving it off! Only a few more stitches and letters to go, then you can expect that one home! :D

  8. Thank you for the list of your header pieces. Love the look of the Alpha piece too. When I look at pieces I've stitched, they all look vaguely similar - I'm not sure if that's because of my thread stash or if I'm drawn to a certain type of look. What strikes me about your pieces is how much variety you have. Is that deliberate? Do you go for a different looking piece each time for variety? It's all very inspirational anyway!

  11. I was going to ask you yesterday what one of your pieces was . Then I read yesterday that you were going to post a list of them today so I held off. The piece was the BBD Mystery Sampler. I'm thinking that maybe you must have started that before I started following your blog last summer? Anyway , I don't recall seeing it.

I am like you when it comes to finding something that I really enjoy stitching and seeing it come to an end. I have thought about starting a stitching journal for what my thoughts are while working on a piece. I already have an exchange journal of what I stitch for whom and the name of the exchange and what I recieved. In this I like to keep the addresses of those that I receive something from . I was wondering if you do this? Even though we haven't known each other very long (not even a year) or even exchange that much email; Your genuine kindness and love of life makes it feel like you're an old friend to be cherished each time I visit your blog.Keep it up! Btw... I don't know if you've seen it, but I finished Psalm 145.

  13. Love the header selection. I knew that skeleton in the coffin looked familiar!
I have always wondered about Prim and Quaker animal motifs. I have trouble pin-poiting the species too. Since most pieces are based on children's work I suppose some of the animals are simply made up creatures.

  23. Love the new header picture. They all look great but AlphaBlocks jumbs out at me. I don't remember if you used the fiber it called for or not could you let me know. And once I saw yours I wanted it too and of course got it and the pattern was added to my to do pile. No fabric or fiber yet just the I want to do its. :-)

  25. Oh you're so coy - your "little" efforts. I think you are very talented indeed. You have that rare gift of being good at both stitching and finishing.

OK. Enough buttering you up. It might just get to your head! ha ha.

Have a good evening. Oh yeah, this project is truly wonderful!

  29. Oh Edgar, your Alpha piece is just gorgeous! I love the colors :)

I totally BTDT with finishes, some are like a great book or movie that you can't stand to see end. I agree with Coni, that often it is the WIP that gave me the most trouble...LOL.

I am in love with your new header, as well, and thank you for the info...you are my hero and your blog is my daily treat...love ya cookie!

    Hugs
