A Little Remebering

Gentle Friends... with the tragic fire on the Ile de la Cite at Notre Dame Cathedral on Monday got me to thinking about some past visits to Paris and so I dug up some of my own photos...

... this is my favourite tea shop on the left bank where you can get...

... a pot of tea and some delicious cream filled choux... and while you enjoy this treat you can sit an look at this view...

... I took this shot of the towers of Notre Dame sitting at Odette...

... here's a shot of the front...

... from the Petit Pont (or Small Bridge)...

... here's a shot of the now lost roof and 19th-century spire taken from the Pont de l'Archeveche (the Archbishops Bridge)

... and a shot of the gardens at the back of the church... all the roof structure is gone along with the spire. There was so much loss but there was so much saved... I've been really lucky to have been able to visit Paris quite a few times and to see this wonderful structure both inside and out.

.... and a shot I lifted from the interent of the high alter amid the ruble.

  1. I've never been to Paris, but I discovered on Monday that you don't have to have visited a place to mourn it. I was just heartbroken at the thought of what was being lost. I am so gratified to learn that much was saved. The history of the building and all that's taken place there is astounding. Thank you for sharing your photos.

  3. Still cannot contain the loss in my mind...such an historic and iconic
cultural/spiritual gift to the world. It will be restored to us all...
    please Lord.

  4. I was so upset!! Our paper had the last picture you showed. I cut it out. To me it speaks a great deal. On the whole such a very sad loss to all the world. I am hoping the rose windows are able to be salvaged and used again, the organ too.

  5. I lived in Paris for six months many moons ago, hearing about Notre Dame made me cry. It makes us treasure what we have. Our own cathedral here in Lincoln, which is over 1000 years old, rang it's bells in remembrance of Notre Dame and that too made me cry. You have beautiful photos. x
