A Little Thriftin'

Gentle Friends, once again we were out and about Saturday - I was looking for fun stuff and Rico was on his phone...we hit the usual places... and an estate sale where I did find one really great piece...

... this really big, really heavy, bright cut glass bowl/centerpiece.  It's beautifully cut and since it's such thick glass the deep cut work is really sharp and sparkles nicely.  When I picked it up it was pretty dirty and hadn't been cleaned in a long time.  When I got it home, I soaked it in hot soapy water for a while then scrubbed it and rinsed it with ammonia water so now really shines.

  1. Ohhh what a great find! These types of pieces are always timeless.I always give some type of beautiful cut glassware at weddings because that Purple polka-dotted salad bowl the couple thinks they want now will surely not be something to see them into their future. lol lol That's right Missy make thier wedding about you and not them....just like this post! lol lol Sorry Edgar......my tea has kicked in. :)
    Hugs to you and yours.

  4. I am rarely a fan of cut glass, I prefer etched glass, but this piece is magnificent. What a find.

  8. What a lovely bowl. I'm picturing it piled high with vintage Christmas bulbs and those vintage tinsel and beaded picks poked in around the ornaments. Good find. Do you have some sort of good estate sale locator 6th sense? I never get so lucky. I live in the No. bay and all I find are heaps of baby items, old fans and dirty toasters! ;-)

  9. Good Morning Edgar, Its lovely to meet you. I was visiting another friend when I saw you, so I thought I would pop over and say hello.
I love rummaging around charity shops, such as the Heart Foundation, discovering pre-loved items. I have to say this is an exceptionally beautiful bowl. With the darker nights coming our way and the lights on in the evening this bowl will look stunning.
    With warmest wishes from England.

  10. It is beautiful. Perhaps you should do an instructive post on cleaning crystal. I had no clue you could use ammonia on it. I am always afraid I will damage or etch it with any chemicals other than soap and water.
