A Little Coverlet

Gentle Friends, so I made a little start on...

..."Coverlet Candle Mat" from Scarlett House.  It was from a club I was in called Colonial Gatherings back in 2014.  It came as a kit and I had just stuck the whole thing away.  Digging around recently it surfaced and started it up.  It came with everything but the linen that was included was not to my liking so I frogged all I had done and found a piece in my stash that I like better. The picture is not good as the linen I'm working on is a warmer beige than it looks.

We made a quick run to Target in South SF this morning when it opened at 7 to pick up some paper towels... none to be had in the City... and then ran through the drive-through at Carls Jr for some breakfast.  Now we're hunkering down inside for the rest of the day to watch some films on TCM.

A Little Stash

Gentle Friends, I do enjoy buying new stash, whether or not I can ever stitch it is another issue...
but buying some stash keeps me happy.
Here are the bits I got lately mostly from the recent Nashville Market...

... I picked up the last two sections of this long sampler from Shakespeare's Peddle...  I really like "Jenny's House" ... and now with all the pieces together it'll make a nice project at some point...

... how could I pass on this great sheep sampler from Plum Street.... and the "Quaker" inspired sampler from Needle and Thread is really charming!!... and that's a super-duper border!!

I've also picked up "Littel Birds" from BBD and the 40ct linen to work it - love it!!   - and -  the newest chart in the Noah's Christmas Ark series Llamas and Lovebirds!

I couldn't pass on NeedleworkPress' "Sarah Barker" - another great border!!  At the same time, I snapped up copies of "One Nation" and "Salem Sisters II."

... although there were other BBD designs, these were the four that appealed to me...
love me some BBD!!!

A Little Puzzle

Gentle Friends... in addition to SIP lately... I've hauled out a card table and a puzzle...

... it's a 500 piece little gem.  The puzzle is from the Galison Co, the image by Hiroshige called
" View from Satta Suruga Province." and it is very relaxing to work on in the evening!!

A Sarah Wodham Finish

Gentle Friends, so I wrapped up and put in the last stitches on Miss Sarah last night.  She has been a really fun stitch ... even the over one verse - a bit tedious - but well worth it in the end!!  Here's a snap...

Sarah Woodham 1770 - from Shakespeare's Peddler
1/13/20 - 4/12/20
Overdyed Cotton Conversion - 40 ct LL Buttercream

The only changes I made were to work on some of the spacing in the verse, and the chain stitching for the two large girl's hair.  I chain stitched the one on the left and didn't like it much so I frogged it out and then restitched it over one and like it much better.

I think I'll pull out a WIP and stitch on that tonight so I'll try and post that next week...

Happy Easter

Gentler Friends,  a very Happy Easter to you and yours.  Although we are sheltering in place we'll be hearing Easter mass with Father Matt at 10am on a Live Feed from Most Holy Redeemer.
I wanted to find a crazy Easter hat snap and look at what popped up...

The Signal Watch: Ann Miller, What Are You Doing? Easter Edition
... that super dancing star Ann Miller and a hat with flowers and a bunny rabbit!!  What a great segway to that quintessential Easter film from 1948 ...
Peter Lawford, Ann Miller, Judy Garland, Fred Astaire, Peter ...

"Easter Parade" starring Fred Astaire, Judy Garland Ann Miller, and Peter Lawford...  it's a super film full of wonderful music.  If you've never seen it or if it's been a long time TCM is playing it today at 8pm EST / 5pm PST. I would highly recommend a peek at this classic!

Good Friday....

Gentle Friends, still sheltering in place and in addition to a little stitching I've hauled out an old card table that came from my grandparents and a puzzle.

Today is Good Friday and in art, there are many images of the Crucifixion...
I had never seen this painting and thought about the image...

Brooklyn Museum

...it's called "What Our Lord Saw from the Cross" by James Tissot c. 1890.

It's an unconventional perspective of the Crucifixion.  It gives us, the viewer the unique opportunity to put ourselves into Christ's place and consider his thoughts and feelings as he gazed on his friends and enemies who were witnessing or participating in his death.  At his feet is a gathering of humanity: sorrowful women, curious bystanders, a stoic Centurian, and self-satisfied high priests on horseback.  In the background is the tomb where Jesus' body will be laid.

We as He did... look upon those who supported, condemned or were indifferent to Him...
it's a really powerful image.
