A Little Italian Dinner

Gentle Friends, so... I got an email this morning that I had left off some snaps of dinner... of course, I took some but really wasn't planning on posting... but ask and ye shall receive!!... here goes...

... we always start off with drinks, and tonight Rico suggested some Prosecco.. we already had some Chambord... so Kir Royales were the way to go!!

... you can't have lasagna without a little salad so chop, chop, chop et voila a little tossed salad... with some Olive Garden dressing...

... the bottle of Prosecco got drunk up quite quickly and my Dad always told me to have a bottle of champagne in the fridge, ya never know, right!!  so I pulled out the emergency champagne et voila more Kir Royale!!!!

.. Rico had cut a delicious focaccia bread with rosemary and had made a sauce to dip the cubes into with blackberry balsamic vinegar and olive oil ... he also wrapped up some melon with prosciutto....... a little snack before the meal.....

... and I had made a small loaf of hot french bread to go with the lasagna.... and our friends brought a watermelon cream pie...  here is a snap of one I stole off the internet but their pie was a dead ringer for this one...

... it was a fun evening!!

A little Stitchin'

 Gentle Friends picked up a little on Paradise... and here's a snap...

... working from L to R I finished up the tree, birds, and bees...  I also kitted up the two small projects I'm going to work on next.. a piece for the Fall and a Christmas piece.  They are both from Blackbird Designs.  I was very saddened when I heard of Barb Adams passing this summer.  She along with Alma Allen made up the team of Blackbird Designs.  They have brought me many hours of stitching pleasure over the years and so many lovely designs I have stitched of theirs are hanging in my home. Thinking about how much BBD has meant to me I have wanted to make a start of another BBD piece or pieces.  I have so much BBD stash I've not stitched it was hard to pick just two, but I did.  I pulled the linen and floss together easily so there will be a new start in a couple of weeks.  I'll put aside Paradise for a bit and stitch my seasonal pieces along with working on Fruits.  That's the plan right now.....

That's about it for today.  As I wrap up the weekend I am sliding a lasagna into the oven as we are expecting some friends over tonight for dinner and a film... 

The Women, 1939... they've never seen it, and I've seen it many times... so bitchy, but fun!!

A Very Little bit of Stitchin'

 Gentler friends, I was just not motivated this week to do much stitching at all... here is where I am now working on the lighter blue at the moment...

... I also have to decide which one of I think six-building variations I want to stitch in the center octagon...  I'm leaning towards either the windmill or swiss cottage... I saw a bunch of snaps on Instagram of other stitchers' pieces that are at this point which was rather inspiring!!

A Little Brunchin'

 Gentle friends, as you know a favorite pastime of ours on the weekend is to go eat somewhere for dinner or go for brunch after mass is always a good time... just before the crowds start waking up and you can be home for a nap by the early afternoon!!  We headed to Bonita's this Sunday... before it was Bonita it was called "Squat and Gobble."  Bonita has Latino-inspired cuisine... here are some snaps...

... Bonita is on the corner of Noe & Market Streets in the Castro... above it used to be a really delicious Chinese restaurant and the Lookout is a fun bar with a wrap-around balcony you can sit, sip a cocktail and watch the world go by...

... brunch specials...  I would usually get the chilaquiles but knew going in what I wanted to order...

... the brunch menu...

... I started off with a really quite tasty Bloody Mary, on the sour side as they put quite a bit of lemon in their mix...

... John got the Mexican Hash...

... Rico got the Omelet de Bonita...

... and Mike and I got the Tres Leches French Toast, delicious... the strawberry jam had an infusion of jalapeno that took this up quite a few notches!!!

It was a fun place to get brunch and we'll be back!!

I stopped by the Walgreens yesterday afternoon and to my surprise, a harbinger of Fall has arrived...

... I do love candy corn and was ecstatic to find it... now bring on the fun Fall stuff!!  Although we've been having our usual low to mid 50's weather-wise here in the City for the past few months, I am so ready for the summer to be over.....

A Couple of Stitches

 Gentle friends, stitching away on Fruits and Paradise this past week. I finished up the July Section on Fruits and got the border in for the bottom of Paradise... here are a couple of snaps...
